Welcoming New Heads of Primary and Secondary of Miftah An-Nur

The community of Miftah An-Nur Islamic International School is delighted to welcome Mrs Lena Khatun and Mr Sabiqur Rahman from the United Kingdom as the new Heads of Schools commencing August 2022.

As the new Head of Primary and Early Years, Mrs Lena has attained more than a decade of education and leadership experience from both UK and international schools. As a post-graduate of University of Hertfordshire and previously a KS1 Phase Leader of International Community School in Jordan, she is passionate about children’s academic progress and growth, as well as overseeing the professional development of teachers.

Regarding joining Miftah An-Nur, Mrs Lena says, “I’m really excited to see what Miftah can offer and what I can offer to Miftah and I look forward to how we can work together with staff and parents, to create the best outcome for the children of Miftah An-Nur. ”

Launched in 2017, Miftah An-Nur is an esteemed international school that combines the best of the British National Curriculum, unique Bruneian heritage and Islamic values. With the new up-coming campus at Sungai Akar set to be completed by July 2023, the school expects to open new teaching opportunities, including the well awaited expansion towards secondary schooling.

The new Head of Secondary School, Mr Sabiqur has also accomplished more than a decade of education and leadership experience from both the UK and internationally. He has always been enthusiastic about teaching since graduating from University of Loughborough and has held various positions that supervised academics and development of children and staff alike, his last post being the Director of Learning at International Community School in Jordan.

On joining Miftah An-Nur, Mr Sabiqur says, “My personal vision and Miftah An-Nur’s vision for what education should be for children aligned perfectly in terms of how we ensure children grow up with good character instilled without compromising them the best education possible.; so they would gain the best of both worlds.”

On the new additions of Miftah An-Nur team members, its Executive Principal Mr Bilal Buttar says, “We’re very excited to have them as part of the family and Brunei is fortunate to have such exceptional leaders because they have shown excellent performance in the field of education and leadership for the past decade. We are looking forward to bringing more international practices to a school that integrates a balance of tradition, modernity and Islamic values for the success of our students. I personally think that Mrs Lena Khatun and Mr Sabiqur Rahman are the perfect fit for Miftah An-Nur in the years to come.” 

With the new Heads of School, Miftah An-Nur is also welcoming Mr Mahari Harith who has recently joined as its new Head of Finance, the final member of its senior leadership team whose alma mater include Epsom College of Surrey England, Queen’s University of Belfast, United Kingdom and BICPA-FTMS of Brunei Darussalam. His experience spanned over 10 years in banking and also in the oil & energy industry. Miftah An-Nur is blessed with having such a multicultural senior leadership team with diverse international backgrounds to pave the way for a bright and optimistic future for the children and community.
